Questions We Get in the NGRI Quarters
Can a heavier light fitting hang from a false ceiling?
Not from the board, but from the frame and the slab, yes. A pendant of any weight gets its own hanger taken back to the slab and a collar through the board, so the load sits on the structure and the gypsum only closes around it. That support is marked on the drawing before framing, which is the whole reason to tell us on the visit what you plan to hang and roughly where.
A beam runs straight across our living room. Can it be hidden?
It can be absorbed, which is better than hidden. Boxing a beam on its own usually makes it look lower, so we either take the ceiling to the underside of the beam in a band and leave the rest of the plane higher, or step down on both sides so the beam becomes the edge of a shape. Which one reads better depends on the room, so we mark both on the wall during the visit.
Can one room be done first before we commit to the rest?
Yes, and we would rather you did. One room is boarded, jointed, lit and looked at with you, and only then do the others start. It costs a little more in mobilisation than doing everything at once, and the quote shows that separately, but it means cove depth and light colour are settled on a real ceiling in your own block.
