It is that the seat is too deep to sit back in without a cushion behind you, or too shallow to be comfortable for the tallest person in the house, or that the whole thing is four inches too long for the wall and the walkway suffers for it. Those are dimensions, and dimensions are the one thing a made sofa can fix. We measure the room, ask who sits where and for how long, and set the depth, the height and the arm width from that. The frame, suspension and filling go together in the workshop. On delivery it is levelled in place and sat on with you there before we leave.
Questions
How is a custom sofa different from buying one in Hyderabad?
The difference is dimensions and what goes inside. A bought sofa comes in the sizes the maker produces, with a frame and foam you cannot see specified. A made sofa is sized to your wall and your household, and the timber, the suspension and the foam density are written on the quote. Whether that is worth it depends on how awkward your room is.
Can you build an L shaped sofa for a specific corner?
Yes, and a corner is usually the case where making beats buying by the widest margin, because a bought L shape rarely matches the two walls it has to meet. We measure both runs, check the return length against the walkway and set the chaise on the side that suits how the room is used.
What fabric should we choose if we have children?
Something with a high rub rating, a tight weave and a removable cover wherever the layout allows it. We go through the swatches with that in mind rather than showing you the ones that photograph best. Performance fabrics and leatherette both wipe down, and we will tell you honestly how each ages.
Will it fit through our door and into the lift?
That is checked before anything is built, not after. We measure the door, the lift and the turn on the landing at the first visit, and where a piece genuinely cannot make the journey it is built in sections that assemble in the room.
Do you make matching pieces later?
Yes, and the specification is kept on file so an ottoman or an extra seater ordered later is built to the same dimensions, the same frame and the same foam. Fabric from a different dye lot will never match exactly, and we say so at the time rather than afterwards.
